Unplug. Go outside and make memories.
What are your fondest childhood memories?
I remember when I was a child, I used to go out the garden a lot to get mud and make my favorite “Milo” concoction. Then I’ll dress up my dolls using toilet paper to create fancy dresses. And when my siblings or playmates are around, oh we just let go of our natural, free-spirited self.
Running, drawing, laughing; the feeling of freedom, adventure and curiosity – these are some of the fondest memories I have. I wonder if my children will have the same memories or even happier.
For this generation, I know their form of play is quite different because we now live in a culture where technology is part of our lives. But as parents, if we encourage our children to get back to the art of play, even though it means letting go of technology for a while, they might explore again the beauty of the outdoors and discover the magic of imagination.
Looking back, I realized how important it is for my son to explore , go outside and stay curious despite living in the digital age. Here are some of my favorite unplugged moments of him…
My budding artist releasing creativity.
My little photographer capturing beautiful moments.
My superhero pretending to save the world.
My little explorer off to an adventure.
My nature lover up close with what he all calls his “pets”.
My free-spirited boy simply having fun in the field of greens.
My cool dude enjoying his favorite place on earth – the beach!
My curious boy getting acquainted with history …
My little bookworm who gets lost once he starts flipping those pages.
My junior master chef assisting mommy in the kitchen.
And my independent boy who just ditched his training wheels. Wuhooo!
Recently I asked my son, what his happy moments are. And he said, “It’s when I draw in my sketch pad, make paper airplanes and when we all go on an adventure trip Mommy”. Whew. Somehow, it reassured me that my son is happiest when he spends most of his time unplugged.
What do you want your children to remember about their childhood?
Enjoy the weekend with your loves! 🙂
